Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture - How does it actually work?
Many people in Melbourne are turning to cosmetic acupuncture as a natural alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic acupuncture offers a gentle, holistic approach to supporting healthy skin and ageing. Rather than changing or freezing the face, treatments work to nourish the skin, regulate the nervous system, and support the body as a whole.
What Is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture uses very fine, sterile needles placed on the face and body to support circulation, collagen production, muscle relaxation, and the skinβs natural repair processes.
Treatments are tailored to the individual and may support concerns such as:
Fine lines and skin texture
Dull or tired-looking skin
Puffiness and fluid retention
Jaw tension and facial tightness
Acne and inflammation
Stress-related skin changes
Overall skin vitality and glow
Cosmetic acupuncture is approached gently and holistically. We are not aiming to create perfection, but to support skin health in a way that feels sustainable, natural, and connected to the rest of the body.
How Does It Work?
From a Western perspective, acupuncture creates tiny microtraumas in the skin that encourage circulation and collagen production. Increased blood flow helps bring oxygen and nutrients to the skin while supporting the bodyβs natural healing response.
From a TCM perspective, the skin is closely connected to the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the body. When these become depleted, stagnant, or out of balance, it may present through the skin as dryness, inflammation, puffiness, breakouts, or premature ageing.
Often, skin concerns are connected to things happening beneath the surface:
Stress and nervous system dysregulation
Hormonal imbalance
Poor sleep or burnout
Digestive issues
Overwork and depletion
This is why cosmetic acupuncture treatments at Our Space include both facial and body acupuncture points β supporting not only the skin itself, but the systems underneath that nourish it.
What To Expect During Treatment
Treatments begin with a consultation where we explore your skin concerns alongside your overall health and wellbeing. We take into account things like sleep, stress, digestion, cycle health, energy levels, and lifestyle.
Sessions are designed to be both restorative and grounding. Many people leave feeling deeply relaxed, noticing benefits beyond the skin alone.
Depending on your individual needs, treatments may include:
Facial acupuncture
Body acupuncture
Nervous system support
Facial massage, gua sha, or rolling
Lifestyle or TCM-based recommendations
A Slower, More Intentional Approach
Cosmetic acupuncture works gradually and cumulatively. While some people notice a post-treatment glow after one session, longer-term changes generally occur over a series of treatments.
At Our Space, we believe healthy ageing does not need to come from force or extremes. Cosmetic acupuncture offers a softer approach; one that honours the body, supports wellbeing, and creates space to slow down and reconnect with yourself in the process.
Because feeling well and looking well are deeply connected.

Most of the time, you canβt feel a thing. If you do it will be like a tiny prick which can be felt when the needle is initially inserted into the skin which will disappear in a second and the rest of the treatment will be painless and relaxing.

Facial acupuncture can still be performed in areas where Botox has been used by working more superficially within the skin and avoiding deeper muscle layers.
Treatments can also focus on other areas of the face unaffected by Botox.

There is no downtime required after a session, but a common side effect is flushing of the face which will usually go down in an hour.
